Gospel, Spirituals, Ragtime and Blues: Music & Stories

Join us for an extraordinary musical voyage.

We combine music and storytelling exploring the origins, history and culture of negro spirituals, work-songs, ragtime, gospel and blues.

This show is not just a performance; it’s an exploration of our collective heritage, a celebration of resilience, and a testament to the unifying power of music.

Many iconic songs, such as “We Shall Overcome” and “Amazing Grace,” have become anthems of hope and resilience. Gospel music continues to influence popular culture and is celebrated in various forms around the world. From traditional gospel choirs to contemporary gospel artists, the spirit of this music lives on and continues to touch the hearts of many.

Some of the most influential gospel singers, Mahalia Jackson, Thomas A. Dorsey, Nina Simone and Aretha Franklin, have used their music to spread messages of hope and empowerment to their audiences.

As we continue to celebrate gospel music and its impact on our culture, it is important to remember the struggles and hardships enslaved Africans had to endure for over 300 years, then ‘Jim Crow’ through to the civil rights movements in the 50’s and 60’s.

What shone through it all? Their resilience, determination, unyielding desire to be free, and hope, which paved the way for future generations.

Our Gospel Sunday shows will be held at the the Toulouse Lautrec jazz club- Kennington.
